America’s Next Top Writer?
Starting from a young age, I've always loved writing and have dreamt of becoming an author for young adults and maybe children. I used to go to the library and read at least 2 to 3 books a week. Some of my favorite authors who I have come to love are John Greene, Sarah Dessen, Jodi Picoult, Kate Brian, Robert Frost, Shel Silverstein, and Rick Riordan. I love getting into a book so much that I can't put it down and the feeling you get when you read a good book and don't want it to end. I love the imagery, the diction, and imagining the plot in my mind. I want others to feel the same way when they read something of mine. I want readers to be able to relate to what I have written and know who I am. However, things have now changed along with my interests, but I still want to write (part time maybe?). I like how there's no right or wrong in writing and that I can express my feelings. Although some drawbacks to this career path are that I don't handle criticism well and I feel awkward having other people read my work because I write for myself, if that makes any sense. But I have come to realize that with any occupation I choose to pursue, I will have to overcome obstacles, so I will have to get over these factors eventually.

Is there a certain topic in mind that you would like to write about? Or are you saying that you would want to become a fictional writer? Either way, if becoming a writer doesn't work out you'll always have a pleasant and talented hobby! Keep it up! Reading is a marvelous wonder.

I actually enjoy writing poems more than fiction books but either one!
DeleteI as well have entertained the thought of writing a children's novel, simply for the want to draw cute pictures that tell a story. Its a wonderful beginning towards writing larger novels, but an idea for a first step forward might be to volunteer to read books at story time at the local children's library?
ReplyDeleteI know when I was interested in being a Kindergarten teacher, I considered a first job of being a librarian over the summer :)
Also, as far as criticism goes, I know in acting, I was almost upset when I didn't get any notes because I was unsure as to how to make myself improve to improve the overall better of the show. Don't take it too personally, the critics are only there to help you grow :)
If having others read your work makes you uncomfortable, then I applaud your courage in maintaining this blog.
ReplyDeleteActually, if you really want to grow as a writer, you need as many readers as possible. Show your work to EVERYONE and get their reactions - even if they're not always gushing. The only way to know if you're making that connection with readers is to ask them directly.
Hi Mandeep!
ReplyDeleteI share your passion for writing! I think you should pursue it regardless of what profession you go into because it is a wonderful form of expression and can take you anywhere. Although I share my writing openly now-a-days, it's still difficult. Writing is very personal so it's hard to be criticized but, at the same, time meant to be public. I've found it easier to share my work online because I don't know the people personally and I feel like they aren't judging me. My favorite writing website it figment.com and it's free to make an account and put your writing up.
Good luck!
